REY STAR WARS

2017

This project was a part of the 3D Character Creation module at Bradford University.

I decided to create Rey from Star Wars as I felt she will provide a competent challenge in a way that I can learn and grow from.

I started with a female body mesh and I blocked out and simplified her in Maya. Soon after I cut away areas which would later become Reys clothes.

Once the base mesh was finished I started the sculpt in Mudbox, adding detail to each separate mesh level by level. The end result is the turntable video with the most detail.

After the sculpt was done and painted, I exported it all as texture maps and used Photoshop and Shadermap 3 to clean up and merge them.

Once the textures was finalized, I retopolagised in Maya with unfortunate results. As you can see the difference between the image renders and Mudbox video render, I lost a lot of detail through this process. My intention with this step would have been to use Topgun to retopolagise but due to time constraints I had to stick with Maya.

The final renders are in Keyshot which present the model nicely. The module was a huge challenge for me as this was my first character and I learned a lot about the pipeline as a whole. Rey is a step forward towards the quality that I aim to achieve but I feel I miss the mark with this character due to lack of knowledge and experience.
