This environment was a part of three choices for my Environment and Prop Design module at Bradford University.
I chose this as the dimensions that were provided in the brief ensured that there was a degree of creative freedom. There were also a range of possibilities for an effective colour palette and a range of design choices.
For the process, I first drew up some room layouts on Photoshop to see which would be the best for the style I was going for.
After I had selected the layout, I modeled the room floor and began modeling elements such as the staircase and columns. Once the room was modeled in terms of layout, I then started with my props, I had twenty or so ideas but due the the poly count constraint I could only model and texture around seventeen. The rest being more environmental sets rather than intractable props.
The lighting was a major challenge to get over, I originally wanted light rays to shine through the stained glass windows creating a pattern on the floor but due to time constraints coming closer to submission I had to settle with the lighting I already had.
For submission I choose to render with Mentalray but after submission I rendered these particular shots in Keyshot and it was my first environment rendered with Keyshot.
Through this module I learned a lot about the pipeline and lighting aspects which will help me in my next environment project.
